Yet, housing insecurity is not inevitable – it’s preventable. By addressing the root causes, providing strong support systems, and implementing sustainable solutions, we can change the trajectory of lives. Sometimes the best way to understand the power of prevention is through the voices of those whose lives were changed before crisis hit. These aren’t dramatic rescue stories—they’re divine redirection stories. And they’re just as miraculous.

Take Angela, a young mother of two who lost her job unexpectedly. With no savings and rent due, she was facing eviction. But thanks to our coalition’s referral program, she was connected with The Respond2Grace Foundation housing advocate who helped secure rental assistance, connect her with a job-training program, and enroll her kids in a church-led afterschool mentorship group.

Angela never had to enter the shelter system. Her children stayed in their school, and she found employment within three weeks. Today, she mentors other young women facing similar circumstances.

Or consider Marcus, a high school senior whose grades plummeted after his father’s death. Data from a school-based social worker flagged him as high-risk. Our community partners stepped in with grief counseling, tutoring, and spiritual mentorship. He graduated on time and is now enrolled in community college.

These stories matter. They remind us that prevention is about early care, faithful presence, and long-term vision. We’re not just catching people when they fall—we’re keeping them standing.

Galatians 6:2 urges us to “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Prevention is one of the greatest ways we do that—by lifting burdens before they break someone down.

Vulnerability doesn’t have to end in homelessness. With grace and grit, it can become the path to victory.
